Adoption Status: Available
Foster Status: In Foster Care
DOB: Approx March 2019
Breed: Mixed Breed (suspect Shepherd x)
Size: Medium (currently 15kg but will likely be around 22-25kg-ish when fully grown)
Fencing Requirements: Minimum 1.5m of secure, dog-proof fencing around the home
Hobbies: Zoomies, exploring, chewing her chew toys, lying in the sun, playing, CUDDLES!
Good Habits: Snuggly, knows basic manners, dog social, house/crate trained, quiet (not a big barker)
Bad Habits: Jumps up when over excited but is still a pup so she's working on it
Personality Type: Friendly, outgoing and confident, smart. Interested in what is happening around her. Medium energy level.
Special Requirements: None that we're aware of
Preferred TV show: has never seen TV, but she is a bit nosey so we reckon she would like a drama (think Shortland Street)
Ideal Home: An owner who understands how to provide kind and consistent training to pups. A family home with older kids could be good, where people may come and go, but where there is almost always someone around to provide a chin scratch and a kind word. However, a family isn’t essential as Maia would love to be part of any home where she is involved, consulted and included in day to day activities.
Adoption Fee: $285
Maia is a cool pup with a sweet nature, loads of character and she's a bit of a looker (in case you hadn't noticed!). She is just a pup, and at first we thought she may get big, but so far she's stayed quite small in the time we've had her so we think she'll only be a medium sized girl when fully grown.
She needs an owner who will teach her all sorts of cool things using positive training methods, will take her cool places like doggy obedience classes and who can provide her with consistent rules from day 1 so that she grows up to be a good doggy citizen.
Maia is a happy girl who is very food motivated and already knows how to sit nicely (she's suuuper quick at it if you have some yummy treats in your hand!) and is working on her other manners too. She also has a very gentle mouth - no snatching treats with this girl! She is currently in a foster home with pigs, cats, goats and sheep. She needs a little reminder not to be annoying to them sometimes but quickly listens when her foster mum (or the other animals!) remind her to behave. She is interested but respectful of the resident cat so a cat that stands up for itself would be best if there is one in the home. Her foster mum says she's a very affectionate, intelligent and loving girl who loves to play with her foster brother Billy.
As with all Pound Hounds, Maia must be allowed inside (this includes to sleep) so she can really be part of the family. She will also require loads of love, a comfy bed (the couch will be great too thanks), quality (puppy) food, and regular flea and worm treatments.
