Ideal Home: Freya would love a home with hoomans who are looking for a smart pupper to teach and play with, who will make sure she knows all the important things pups need to know to become great doggy citizens but will also understand that she's a smart girl and loves working her brain. While she is great with young kids, she would likely do best in a quieter home with older kids (over 12). As she's still a baby, she will need a home where someone is able to be with her most of the day. Freya adores people and will happily crawl into your lap for a cuddle (on her terms) but she is also happy to just be in your orbit and have lots of play and hang out time too. Another calm, male dog in the home would be wonderful for her to learn from.
Freya and her sister Izzy came to us from the pound. They had a pretty rough start to life, having been found by a kind man who saw them being thrown out of a car in a box and stopped to help them. Unsurprisingly, after this experience, poor Freya was left pretty scared of people. Since coming into our care though, Freya is THRIVING! Her confidence with new things and new people is growing every day and she is just a wonderful little bundle of smartness and love.
Freya LOVES using her nose, and some of her favourite games come at meal times when she has to find her food. She loves creative feeding times (hiding her biscuits in empty toilet rolls, snuffle mats, rolled up blanket, scattered in the grass). She is learning sit and down commands. She's also starting to auto-sit which is awesome. She's responding to her name and recall when there's not any big distractions. She is learning to relax in her crate and can happily stay in it overnight without issue. She waits patiently for her food rather than throwing herself at the bowl too which is pretty impressive for a wee pupper!
Freya is learning all good things in her foster home - waaaay more than most pups her age, which just goes to show just how much of a smart cookie she is. She's been around young kids, chickens, rabbits other dogs and has been great with all of them (she adores playing with the older dog in her foster home) but does get quite excited when the little kids are running around and yelling so a home with older kids (over 12) would be best. New things and people can be scary for her at first but with continued attention to socialising her with new and fun things, in a gentle and positive way, she's going to be an even more amazing little lady in no time! She can take a little bit of time to warm up to new people at first, but if they give her space and allow her to come to them on her terms, she soon comes out of hers shell, giving a little lick and trying to share her toys with you. Her confidence is growing every day though so given a few more positive interactions and experiences we know she'll be loving making new hooman friends in no time.
Freya is already doing great with toilet training, consistently going out side when taken to go "toilet". Her new hoomans will need to continue to be consistent with taking her out for toilet so she doesn't have any accidents but she's already well on her way (although she's not a big fan of the cold, so sometimes does need a warm coat to be persuaded to go outside). She's fab in her crate, happily hopping in when it's nap time and this is something we'd recommend that any new family continue with while she is still little, giving her a safe place to go when she needs some time out and a secure place to go when it's time for a nap.
Freya is a puppy and will be teething soon, so just like hooman kids, everything is going in her mouth. She does like to chew so having loads of chew appropriate toys for her to chew on will help make sure she doesn't chew anything she shouldn't. She also loves to chew sticks, happily carrying around a stick 3-4x her size!
Freya's foster mum has said: "She is sweet, smart, loves her toys and enjoys chewing on things. She is very affectionate once she trusts you and will shower you with all the puppy kisses. She needs someone who is going to be patient and gentle with her as she responds really well to positive reinforcement. We think she's amazing and will make someone very happy"
If you can provide Freya with a fully fenced property, quality food, regular flea and worm treatments, a comfy and warm bed, a comfy couch to nap on, toys and most of all lots of love for the rest of her days, click on the apply to adopt button and complete the application form.
