Jack
Adoption Status: Available to Adopt
Foster Status: In foster care
DOB: 2014 - 10 years old
Sex: Male
Breed: Jack Russell x Bichon
Size: Small
Fencing Requirements: Minimum 1.5m SECURE (can't go under it can't go over it proof) - this boy is a Houdini and can climb fencing. He will find any little escape hole.
Hobbies: Zoomies, naps in the sun, taking himself on adventures, chasing cats, playing with doggy friends (as long as they're not too annoying), mostly just going on adventures and eating
Good Habits: House and crate trained, knows basic manners, always comes when you call his name, affectionate, enjoys sharing the couch, dog social, loves to get out on adventures. Particularly loves men (but is keen on anyone who'll give him an ear scratch)
Bad Habits: Chases cats, his middle name is Houdini - if you give him the opportunity, he will get out for a walk on his own, typical terrier - bit of an ahole and can be a bully with other dogs if given the chance.
Personality Type: Medium-high energy. Loves to get out and go on adventures, then come home and chill. Definitely needs regular exercise daily and someone to get out and zoom with. Could happily go on a bush walk for a couple hours
Special Requirements: Secure fencing, a firm and consistent hooman who will give clear boundaries
Adoption Fee: $300
Ideal Home: Jack is a happy and outgoing boy, but he's also a "typical terrier" which means he's got a bit of a naughty streak... Despite being in his middle aged years, he still has plenty of spring in his step and would happily go for big long walks every day if he could (he goes on pack walks twice a week currently). He would best suit a child free home with someone who is home all day or can take him to work (Jack does have some mild separation anxiety), but who still likes to get out on adventures and get plenty of exercise. He is not a "snuggly" dog, he is a companion and wants to be treated like a real dog, not a lap dog. That doesn't mean that he doesn't enjoy a comfy couch with his person after a busy day though. Jack would make a fabulous companion for an older but still active couple or single person and would love another female doggy companion in the home. A home with someone who understands the personality traits of the Jack Russell breed and has the ability to be firm but fair with Jack when he's being a jerk would be great.
Jack is a confident and happy boy who loves adventure. Don't let his middle age fool you, he still has plenty of gas left in the tank and will hopefully still have at least another 6-7 years in him yet!
He came into care with his fur sister Molly. Molly has since found a new home.
Jack is the IDEAL guy to keep the neighbour's cats out of your vege garden. Not one steps foot on the property without him seeking them out and banishing them from his turf! Obviously this means that a cat free home is a must. He's ok with other dogs (he's living with one at the moment), but he can be a bit of a bully and an opportunist so if he thinks he can get away with being a bully, he'll take the opportunity. He has been working on this though, with our trainer and on his pack walks and as you can see from the videos, he's doing a great job and just needs a firm hooman who will not accept any silliness and will give him firm feedback when he's tries it on out on walks.
Jack acts like a spring chicken most of the time and loves to get out and have a good zoomie around the garden. He's always on the go, but does have an off button, so also loves to spend his quiet time snoozing in the sun or in a cozy bed (or beside you on the couch!). He'd be the perfect home office companion, reminding you often to take those computer breaks! He is an escape artist and can climb, so will definitely need very secure fencing and to be either inside the home or in a pen outside when he is not being supervised or he WILL find a way out.
In the words of our trainer "Jack looks like a Bichon but he's very much a terrier. He just want to go on adventures and do cool stuff basically, so if you're looking for a cute, cuddly, fluffy lap dog, he's not it. But someone just looking for a cool dog to hang around with, to go on adventures with, go for rides in the car, just be his best mate and let Jack be the rough and tumble little fella that he is, that would be the ideal home for Jack. He's a give an inch take a mile kind of guy so if he's not allowed to be silly, then he'll behave himself. He needs someone who will be firm and fair and consistent with him but that is not unlike other terriers that I've met and in that home I could see him living quite happily for a long time."
Jack is fully house and crate trained and will require regular grooming - he was in rough shape when he arrived and needed a full clip due to severe matting. He is good with older kids but is a middle aged gent who's never spent a lot of time around kids so any new hoomans would need to make sure to advocate for him around children so they don't get in his face and overwhelm him. Jack knows his basic manners (sit etc) and has a fab recall which is a huge bonus.
Jack loves people in general but ADORES men.
If you can provide Jack with a fully fenced and secure property, quality food, regular flea and worm treatments, a comfy and warm bed, a comfy couch to nap on and most of all lots of love for the rest of his days, click on the apply to adopt button and complete the application form.
Thanks for checking out handsome fella Jack's profile! We cant wait to help him find his forever hoomans, could that be you?
