Adoption Status: Available to Adopt
Foster Status: Awaiting foster home
DOB: 18 months old
Breed: Chocolate Labrador (pure, no papers)
Fencing Requirements: Minimum 1.6m of secure, dog-proof fencing around the home. Contained in the back of the property would be best
Hobbies: Snuggles, playing, chilling with his hooman, going on adventures, eating! sleeping with his legs in the air
Good Habits: Happy, GREAT with hoomans, really good with cats, affectionate, house trained, good with kids, good manners, social with female dogs and desexed males
Bad Habits: NOT good with male dogs that still have their bits - he is now desexed so we expect this to get better as his hormones subside but he is NOT a dog for daycare or dog parks. He would do best in a calm environment away from other male dogs.
Personality Type: Happy go lucky goofball, affectionate, well mannered, medium-highish energy
Special Requirements: Very Secure Fencing
Ideal Home: Leif would love a home where he gets to be with his hooman all day - whether that's heading with you to work or chilling with you at home, he just loves to be involved. A rural home that still has awesome fencing (not post and wire sorry) would be a HUGE plus. He has been in a home with cats previously (they used to sleep with him) and was fine however this all comes down to introductions so a cat that stands it's ground would be best. He is good with kids but does get excited at first so older children (12+) would be best. Leif has an awesome, loving, happy personality, but he doesn't like other enitre (not desexed) male dogs at the moment thanks to those male hormones, we've had him desexed now so this should get better with time but he would do best in a home with female dogs or as an only child until he can get his hormones under control.
Adoption Fee: $320
Leif is still in the pound at the moment and will be heading off to his new foster home this weekend! He is a SUPER sweet and happy guy that just wants to be loved and included in his hoomans lives.
In true Lab style, Leif LOVES food and this makes him very easy to train, however any new hooman would need to be sure to watch his weight as - also in true Lab style - all he has to do is look at food and puts on weight. He is essentially still a pup at only 18 months old so still does the excitable Lab dance when he first sees you but he also knows how to be nice and calm and loves to just hang out and chill with his hooman - happy to hop into his bed and lay with his feet in the air, while you work in your office or wander around with you as you do the gardening. He would LOVE a home where he gets to be with his hooman all day.
Leif does have issues with entire (not desexed) males at the moment but we've seen this before and now he's desex it's likely that within a few months this normally settles down. We'd suggest that he's no good as a daycare or dog park kid though. He will also require secure fencing (no farm fencing) as he has been known to take himself for walks when left alone for long periods of time.
He has been in a home previously with cats and kids and was great, however any new family would need to be sure to do proper introductions with any kitties currently in the home - as with any dog.
Can you offer Leif a safe home full of adventures, company, quality food, a warm bed, regular flea and worm treatments, and most importantly loads of love for the rest of his days?
As with all Pound Hounds, Leif must be allowed inside the home (this includes sleeping) so he can really be part of the family.
