Good Habits: Super affectionate, social with hoomans (LOVES men), very social with dogs, easy to be around, house trained, crate trained, knows how to play gently, eager to please, very loving personality, SUPER smart and wants a job to do, knows basic manners (sit etc)
Bad Habits: Chooks and goats get his attention at the moment (he wants to herd them) but his foster mum is working on that at the mo so should be sorted soon. Hogs the couch.
Personality Type: High energy, gentle, great company, praise driven
Special Requirements: None that we're aware of
Ideal Home: Nicky is a sweet natured boy who loves to run and play. He loves attention and will do anything for praise which makes him an absolute treat to train and with his working dog brain he's super smart and picks things up quickly. Nicky will need an active home, ideally with a male owner (he looooves men) who is experienced with working breeds and understands that they need both their brain AND their body worked. He'd LOVE a home on a lifestyle block or as a "pet" with a job to do on a farm - his Eye Dog instincts are strong and he'd love a hooman that would teach him how to do it the right way. He'd make a fab long distance running/hiking/trail buddy and is definitely NOT for the couch potatos out there. Nicky is super dog social and adjusts his play style well for whatever dog he is playing with but especially loves other dogs that play like he does (lots of runny chasey). He's also very people social but because he's a tall bouncy guy, we'd recommend a home with kids over 8 so he doesn't accidentally knock anyone over when in zoomie mode.
Adoption Fee: $320
Nicky came into our care on Christmas Eve (hence the name haha). He'd been found dumped and handed into the pound. Luckily his gooey nature and love of cuddles won over the Animal Control staff and they brought him to our attention.
This kid ADORES men, making a beeline for any man he sees so he can sidle up and get an ear scratch. Nicky will do anything for praise and this makes him very easy to train but he is a smart and active boy with strong Eye Dog instincts so would do best in a home where he's going to get mental as well as physical exercise. He's a working breed dog who wants a job to do - he'd make an awesome mate on the lifestyle block or farm if you've got the time and experience to show him what to do.
Still a young guy, Nicky can be a bit excitable, but he's still very early in his training and development so this will get better with time and training (he's already improved LOADS). Exciting situations make him a little silly and his ears turn off, so allowing him time to develop these skills slowly, before overloading him will ensure his success.
Nicky isn't sure if he should chase or run away from the cat at the moment. His foster mum is doing regular sniffy hello's and the cat is happy to give him a growl if he's looking to keen but there is that constant propensity to chase currently, it's going to take some training, but should be sorted quickly with consistent training.
Very sociable, Nicky's able to adapt his play to suit a young bouncy playmate or an older more gentle player, he also listens well when you moderate play. Due to his size he can be a bit scary for small or less confident dogs to start with but he is very good at adjusting his play style and as he listens well, managing introductions are easy. See video above of him playing beautifully with 18 week old pup Sadie.
Can you offer Nicky a safe forever home full of adventures, company, quality food, a warm bed, regular flea and worm treatments, and most importantly loads of love for the rest of his days?
As with all Pound Hounds, Nicky must be allowed inside the home (this includes sleeping) so he can really be part of the family.
