Adoption Status: Available to Adopt
Foster Status: In foster care
DOB: 13 weeks old (DOB 26 April 2022)
Breed: Both parents are known and are a mix of Whippet, Aussie Cattle Dog, Labrador & Terrier (Foxy/Jack Russell type Terrier)
Size: Penny is likely to be a slim medium approx 20ish kgs
Fencing Requirements: Minimum 1.5m or higher secure, dog-proof fencing around the home
Hobbies: Learning new things, playing with her toys, playing with her brothers and sister and other doggy friends, getting loads of cuddles and ear scritches, naps, finding treats and treasure hunts, doing zoomies.
Good Habits: Very people oriented, very snuggly but also independent (not clingy), VERY smart, learning "sit" and "bed", learning to play "fetch", VERY dog social and listens well when older dogs tell her no, great with kids, learning toilet training, crate trained, food motivated, her love of people, toys and food plus her smart brain make her very easy to train.
Bad Habits: Penny is still too young to have any bad habits just yet, however she doooeeess like to use her nose so someone willing to give her an interesting spot where she's ALLOWED to dig on the property would be fab
Personality Type: Medium energy, gentle, playful, great company (affectionate without being needy), very sweet nature, independent, happy
Special Requirements: None that we're aware of
Ideal Home: Penny would love to find a happy, fun home with or without children. She has lived with a young child previously and did really well but she IS a puppy so would recommend a home with children over 5 years. She's great with other dogs, having been well socialised with all different sizes (there is a big dog AND a small dog in her foster home), so a home with another dog would be a bonus. She's a medium energy girl and will likely need a home where she got out for good (minimum 1 hour) adventures every day when she's old enough, we suspect she'd be a fab running or hiking bud - at the moment she still takes lots of naps after a zoom around the yard. Penny is still a baby so will need someone home with her for most of the day.
Adoption Fee: $350
If you're looking for a kid that's going to give you the full "OMG you're home!!" experience, loads of snuggles and a bestie to take on adventures, Penny could be your girl.
It's not often we get pups into our care that we can say had the very best start in life, but we can with Penny and her siblings! Penny is part of an "accidental" litter, but lucky for her, she was born into a home with people who cared about her welfare. She's been well taken care of and has had the added bonus of being able to stay with her mum (and dad) until she was 11 weeks old. In that time she's been well socialised with people and other dogs, has had regular flea and worm treatments and plenty of food. This all means that she's a beautifully socialised girl, with a very sweet and fun nature, who is confident and happy and in really great condition (even our vet was impressed!)
Penny is SUPER smart, loves food, loves toys and loves people which all adds up to a kid who is VERY easy to train and picks things up quickly. She's also determined that she is in fact meant to be a lap dog, and will happily take loads of scritches if they're offered.
Penny's foster parents have been working very hard to help her with learning all the things like house training (she's got it nailed!) and basic manners (already knows sit and bed) and she's loving using her brain for treasure hunts and kibble scramble games! This girl LOVES to use her brain AND her nose, so a home where her family will make use of those talents by taking her on lots of "sniffy walks" and teaching her fun tricks would be fab. She adores other dogs and has had plenty of socialisation with them (big and small) as well as cats (interested but easily distracted) and chickens (sniffed then moved away, was more confused than anything else haha) so with ongoing training could potentially fit in just about anywhere.
Penny would very much love a home where she got to be with her hooman during at least some of the day, she's still a baby so does need someone home at the moment. A home with kids (preferably over 5) and another dog would be cool (she's lived with a toddler and is currently in a foster home with kids that are 6 and 11), but we think she'd adjust to being an only child too (if she got lots of play time with other doggy friends of course!)
Penny is a super sweetie and the best of both worlds - adventure kid AND snuggle buddy - what more could you want!
Can you offer Penny a safe forever home full of adventures, company, quality food, a warm bed, regular flea and worm treatments, and most importantly loads of love for the rest of her days?
As with all Pound Hounds, Penny must be allowed inside the home (this includes sleeping) so she can really be part of the family.
These are truly wonderful, gorgeous natured pups and are going to make wonderful family members.
