No Parvo No Puppies Program

Community Vaccination Clinics

Our community Parvo Vaccination clinics happen every 2 months throughout the year.

Each clinic is held in a different area of the Waikato on a Sunday afternoon from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and is open to anyone who GENUINELY needs help with vaccinating their dog for Parvo, flea and worm treatments and microchipping their dog. All we ask is a Koha to help us keep doing these clinics. You will also be able to sign up for our low cost desexing program on the day - you must have a community services card or proof of hardship to be eligible for the desexing program.

Criteria for the clinics are:

  • You must NOT be breeding your dog to sell puppies

  • Your dog must be on leash

  • Your dog must be at the event to receive treatment

  • You must be in genuine need of help (financially unable to afford treatment)

Community Low Cost Desexing Program

You're doing a great thing for your dog/s by signing up! Desexing and vaccinating your dog will make them so much healthier and will help give them a longer, happier life.

We only have limited spaces available for this program at the moment and it is ONLY for those who genuinely need help so if you can afford to pay yourself, please do it.

The details you provide to Pound Hounds Rescue will be kept private and will not be shown to anyone other than the nominated vet clinic your dog will go to for their treatment and to the NZCAR people when we register your dogs new microchip. We may however use your dog's name and photo (NOT your name or photo) on social media to promote this program.

To join our No Parvo No Puppies Community Desexing and Vaccination program, simply fill out the form by clicking the button below.

Criteria

  • You must be able to get your dog to one of our vets in the Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Otorohanga and Te Kuiti/Piopio areas

  • Male or female dog between the ages of 6 months to 9 years old

  • Dog must be in good physical health (if your dog has health issues, we recommend you seek treatment through your own vet)

  • Community services card holder, proof of hardship or referral from Waipa or Waitomo Animal Control.

PLEASE NOTE this program is intended for those who are the LEGAL OWNER of the dog (not rescuing to rehome elsewhere or applying on behalf of a friend/adult child etc) and CANNOT AFFORD treatment on their own. Due to misuse of this program by some, we now only accept purebred/designer dogs into this program on a case by case basis, genuine need must be shown.  Our funds are limited and we want to make sure we're helping people who genuinely need our help.

Cost

  • $80 towards desexing (male)

  • $100 towards desexing (female)

What to do next

We only have limited spaces available for this program at the moment and it is ONLY for those who genuinely need help so if you can afford to pay yourself, please do it.

If you DO genuinely need help to desex your dog, fill out the form to apply and once your application is accepted, we'll contact you with details on how to pay your part and what you need to do next.

You will need to pay your portion of the treatment fee in full before your dog receives their treatment, but if you can't pay in full right away, that's ok as we do have a $10 per week payment option for you too.

What will your dog get?

All dogs that enter the program for desexing will be vaccinated for Parvo if they aren't already. All dogs that enter the program will also be microchipped - but don't worry if your dog isn't, we'll do that for you free of charge and we'll also register the microchip on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register so if your dog ever gets lost, then they can find their way home again through the details on the microchip.

This microchip register IS NOT the same as the one that Council uses and we won't give Council your details unless you say we can but we do recommend that you let them know your dog has been microchipped.

If your dog is pregnant or has puppies

If your dog is currently pregnant or has had puppies, please let us know. Your dog can still join the program and we may also be able to help with taking the pups into our care, finding them really great homes and making sure they're vaccinated and desexed as well (we'll sort out the puppies at no cost to you, you just pay your part for Mama dog). We also need to know if your dog is sick as this may affect their treatment.
